The Xbox 360 is a video game console developed by Microsoft. It is the successor to the Xbox, and it offers wide variety of games. The most interesting aspect about this gaming console is that it comes with an online facility called Xbox Live, through which players can play with other players through the internet. |
This facility can also be used to download games, demos, shows, movies and trailers. Since the gaming console incorporates the Windows Media Center multimedia capabilities, all games can be played on its high-definition screen, and it is also possible to watch high-def DVD movies on the Xbox 360.
These features have made the Xbox 360 a comprehensive entertainment system. The first time that the Xbox was brought to the public's notice was through an announcement on MTV in May 2005. More information about this innovative game console came out in the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
Finally, Xbox 360 was released in North America and Mexico in December 2005, and then released in other countries like Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, South Korea and Taiwan. In every place that it was released, all units were sold out completely, excepting for Japan.
So, how many units of the Xbox have been sold? According to Microsoft, as of December 2008, it has sold about 10 million units of Xbox 360, and it is the first advanced video game console to make that many sales in the United States alone. As of March 2009, it is estimated that around 30.2 million units have been sold worldwide.
